My name is Michael Romenesko. My wife, Callie and I, are dentists practicing in Appleton, WI. We have two sons, Max (9) and Frankie (5). I have been involved in organized soccer for most of my life. I played for the Appleton Soccer Club for my entire youth career. I played for four years at Xavier High School where I was two time conference player of the year and two time first team all state selection.
Following high school, I joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers in 1999. At UW Madison, I received Freshman of the the Year honors and finished top 3 in points for my first season. In 2001, I transferred to University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and played one season prior to early acceptance to Dental School at Marquette University-School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, WI.
Near the end of my senior year of high school, I began my coaching career. I began with the Appleton Soccer Club U13 boys team which I coached for two seasons before moving to FC Magic Soccer Club. Within FC Magic I coached the U15 boys through their U18 season. This team at U17 became the Wisconsin Rebels juniors (youth team to our state's PDL team). From this team we had 7 individuals play division one college soccer at schools around the country (Long Island University, UW Milwaukee, Loyola, Xavier University, UWGB).
Soccer has been and continues to be a passion for me. I loved playing throughout my career, but coaching is where my heart is. I love working with players and coaches of all ages. My coaching philosophy is that all of the joys, excitement, successes, failures, teamwork and community experiences that come through this game translate to the real world. It is important to help young people realize that you are not simply training to play a game. You are learning a skill set that involves friendship, leadership, and problem solving that you will carry with you throughout your life.
I am truly excited to coaching!
